GWO BST Fire Awareness Training

Course overview

The GWO Basic Safety Training Fire Awareness module has been designed to give participants the basic knowledge and skills through theoretical and practical training to prevent fires, make initial and appropriate judgement when evaluating a fire, manage evacuation of personnel to ensure all are safely evacuated and accounted for in the event of an unmanageable fire, and, if it is judged to be safe, to efficiently extinguish an initial fire by using basic hand held fire equipment.

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to demonstrate:

  1. Knowledge of the development and spread of fire.

  2. Knowledge of the causes of fire in wind turbines and the dangers related to this.

  3. The ability to identify and sign of a fire in a wind turbine environment.

  4. Knowledge of the contingency plans in a wind turbine environment including smoke detection and emergency escape procedures.

Correct actions on discovering a fire including correct operation and fire extinguishing by means of the firefighting equipment in a wind turbine generator.

The course content for the Fire Awareness module is:

  • Introduction to the Course

  • Legislation

  • Fire Combustion and Fire Spread

  • Fire Extinguishing

  • Fire Prevention

  • Firefighting Equipment in a Wind Turbine Generator

  • Practice and Scenario-based Training

  • Evaluation

Course assessment

Practical and written.

All successful candidates will receive a MB Globalus Mokymai and a Global Wind Organisation approved certificate valid for 2 years. Certificates must be renewed within 2 years of the date of assessment​.

Admission requirements

Attendees should be medically and physically fit to carry out the practical part of the course and free from medical contra-indications. Course participants will be required to self-certify their medical and physical fitness before commencement of the course. 

Participants should be aged 18 years or over.

Important

From 17 October 2016, delegates who attend a GWO Training course must create a profile in WINDA  in order to get a WINDA ID which they must supply to ARCH prior to completing the training.
