GWO BST First Aid Training

Course overview

The GWO Basic Safety Training First Aid module has been designed to enable personnel to administer safe and effective First Aid in the wind turbine industry/wind turbine generator environment in accordance with GWO First Aid training through theoretical and practical training.

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to demonstrate:

  1. An understanding of the importance to carry out First Aid in a safe and sound manner in accordance with the legislative requirements of their location and according to the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) and American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.

  2. The ability to identify and explain normal function, normal signs, functions and symptoms of serious and minor injuries and illness related to the human body.

  3. An understanding and correct order of management in an emergency situation in a wind turbine generator environment.

  4. Correct use of lifesaving first aid using the primary survey A-B-C.

  5. Correct use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED).

  6. Correct use of ordinary First Aid, the secondary survey.

  7. Correct use of first aid equipment in a first aid scenario.

Course content

The learning outcomes for the First Aid programme are:

  • Introduction to the Course

  • Legislation/Risks/Hazards

  • Anatomy

  • Managing an Incident

  • Lifesaving First Aid Primary Survey A-B-C

  • AED

  • Ordinary First Aid

  • Scenario-based Training

  • Evaluation

Course assessment

Practical and written.

All successful candidates will receive a MB Globalus Mokymai and a Global Wind Organisation approved certificate valid for 2 years. Certificates must be renewed within 2 years of the date of assessment​.

Admission requirements

Attendees should be medically and physically fit to carry out the practical part of the course and free from medical contra-indications that may prevent them from safely complete their job. Course participants will be required to self-certify their medical and physical fitness before commencement of the course. 

Participants should be aged 18 years or over.

Important

From 17 October 2016, delegates who attend a GWO Training course must create a profile in WINDA  in order to get a WINDA ID which they must supply to ARCH prior to completing the training.
